Apostelgasse St. Franziskus, Vienna – Building Physics & Structural Engineering for Existing Buildings
The school project on Apostelgasse is currently in a critical phase: The bidding process is underway, and construction is scheduled to begin in the coming weeks.
Particular emphasis is placed on Building Physics as a key factor in quality, comfort, and sustainability - especially when renovating existing buildings.
VATTER & Partner ZT-GmbH is responsible, among other things, for:
- General building physics services for additions and renovations
- Sound insulation for newly created or restructured classrooms
- Renovation measures for individual building components in the existing structure
- Acoustic optimization of the classrooms
- Summer thermal insulation with a focus on the interaction between sun protection and natural window ventilation
In addition, Structural Engineering is also an essential component of the project:
- Renovation of existing structures and an extension in the form of a stair tower
- Increase in floor load capacity with corresponding renewal of floor slabs
- Partial demolition of load-bearing walls and replacement with reinforced concrete frames to create new spatial structures
- New construction of the existing stairwell at Apostelgasse 5
It is precisely in sensitive existing buildings that the importance of the integral interplay between Building Physics and Structural Engineering becomes apparent for realizing functional, sustainable, and user-oriented solutions.
